The Marlborough Civic Theatre Trust is the proud operator of ASB Theatre Marlborough and the Marlborough Events Centre—Marlborough’s flagship venues for theatre, business events, and cultural celebration. We are looking for an experienced and inspiring theatre manager to work closely with the CEO and team to lead the ASB Theatre in Marlborough – a love of live performance, a drive for excellence, with a head for business is a must.
As Theatre Manager, is a new position and this gives you the ability to you’ll play a vital role in shaping the theatre’s vision of venue hire, as well as ensuring flawless operations deliver seamless performances from curtain up to curtain down which results in satisfied customers who return over and over.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Promote the ASB Theatre Marlborough to community, commercial, and touring clients
- Be the main point of contact for theatre clients and foster long-term relationships
- Supervise theatre operations and its requirements, staffing, and venue compliance
- Lead the theatre team, including the Theatre Coordinator, Duty Managers, FOH casual staff
- Manage theatre bar operations, pricing, and supplier relationships
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver unforgettable audience experiences
- Review budgets, staff rosters, event P&Ls, and ensure all documentation is completed to a high standard
You’ll also manage event software platforms (Planning Pod, Current RMS), oversee event reporting and compliance. This is a fast-paced, multifaceted role that blends creative planning, logistical precision, and people leadership. What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years’ experience in theatre or live performance management
- A strong understanding of creative, commercial, customer service, and technical aspects of theatre operations
- Demonstrated ability to grow venue business through sales and relationship management
- Proven leadership skills—able to develop and inspire a high-performing team
- High-level organisational, budgeting, and systems experience (e.g., Planning Pod, MS Office)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
- A passion for performance and the ability to make clients, patrons, and teams feel supported and inspired
- The role is guaranteed for 30 hours per week but will flex up for more hours in the lead up and during performances.
