Entertainment Technology New Zealand (ETNZ) was established in 2002, and the first conference was held at the Auckland Town Hall, 8-11 February 2003. ETNZ was established by a group of industry professionals to bring together and support all (technical) persons involved in the entertainment industry.
Today Entertainment Technology New Zealand is a professional association of entertainment technology industry practitioners. Supporting people involved in the technical aspects of the theatre, event, and entertainment industry. This includes, but is not limited to, technicians, craft persons, and designers. ETNZ provides this support through professional development, advocacy, and safety.
We aim to provide a communication link for the theatre, event, and entertainment technology industry throughout New Zealand. We provide, and assist with facilitating, the sharing of information on entertainment and event technology, health and safety issues, training and qualifications, service providers, suppliers, and personnel. Further to this, we engage with, and maintain relationships with, other theatre, event, and entertainment industry associations in New Zealand and overseas.
We aim to identify the training needs of the theatre, event, and entertainment industry and support interested parties by providing targeted professional development, either directly or in conjunction with other training providers. ETNZ have worked closely with Skills Active Aotearoa, who have lodged formal qualifications for our industry onto the New Zealand Qualification Framework and developed unit standards to meet these qualifications.
ETNZ supported the development of the Guide for Safe Working Practices in the New Zealand Theatre & Entertainment Industry and Safe Rigging Practices for the Entertainment Industry in New Zealand. Both of these documents are freely downloadable, and we encourage their adoption within the industry. Keep an eye on our Resources Page for any new reference guides.
