As custodian to some of the most iconic venues, we are New Zealand’s only major integrated performing arts centre, underpinned by a commercial conventions business, with a focus on presenting the best of national and international performing arts, conventions, meetings, and entertainment.

As such our Technician position plays a critical role in assisting in the technical delivery of Audio-Visual services to all events undertaken by our Technical Production Department.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Reporting to the Technical Manager of the Bruce Mason Theatre, as a technician you will have a good understanding of technical lighting, sound, audio visual (AV) and/or staging as it applies in a live theatre environment.

Duties may include pack in, pack out, set up and operation of technical lighting, sound or AV equipment executing Auckland Live and Conventions and Tātaki Auckland Unlimited presented and co-produced events.

Furthermore, you may be required to assist with proper storage maintenance of all aspects of technical production equipment, including but not limited to stage decks, trussing, cables, chairs and accessories.

•    Flexibility of working hours including overnight shifts and weekends as required
•    A general knowledge of theatre terminology and working practices
•    An understanding of theatre protocols and operating systems including fly systems, lifts, hoists, chain motors, soft goods and scenic elements is advantageous
•    Physically fit and strong
•    Good communication and client engagement skills
•    Ability to work under direction, in co-operation with others and self-directed as needed
