As custodian to some of the most iconic venues, we are New Zealand’s only major integrated performing arts centre, underpinned by a commercial conventions business, with a focus on presenting the best of national and international performing arts, conventions, meetings, and entertainment. As such our Staging Technician position plays a critical role in assisting in the technical delivery of staging services to all events undertaken by our Technical Production Department.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Technical Staging, the Staging Technician is responsible for maintaining the look, feel and vibe of the day-to-day operations and staging needs as well as executing Auckland Live and Conventions and Tātaki Auckland Unlimited presented and co-produced events.

Furthermore, the successful applicant will assist with pre-installation or pre-event surveys and consultation, discussing with customers, Venue Technicians and other technical staff to their staging needs and capabilities and advising them on the equipment that would best meet those needs.

As a Staging Technician, you will pack in, pack out, and properly store all aspects of technical production equipment, including but not limited to stage decks, trussing, cables, chairs and accessories.

  • Flexibility of working hours including overnight shifts and weekends as required
  • Broad knowledge of theatre terminology and working practices
  • Good understanding of theatre protocols and operating systems including fly systems, lifts, hoists, chain motors, soft goods and scenic elements
  • Physically fit and strong
  • Good communication and client engagement skills
  • Ability to work under direction, in co-operation with others and self-directed as needed
